Knowing what notifications to read

The past couple months I’ve been slowly turning off more app and desktop push notifications on all my devices. I feel like it’s common to think that it’s ok to be super aggressive with notifications and it shouldn’t be. It turns me off to new apps and makes me use other more established apps less over time. It’s kind of like having a little kid poke you and asking you “are we there yet?” hundreds of times a day ha.

Outside downloading any new casual game, my biggest notification noise maker is Slack. There’s so many conversations I want to be a part of but it’s such a distraction. I’ve had to mute all notifications except mentions and when I can I try to jump into conversations but I feel like I miss out on a lot. I suppose there is always sacrifices but my productivity is up.

Lesson learned? It’s ok to be offline and less notified.
